About Fantasy Courts

Fantasy Courts is a fantasy league for Supreme Court of Canada decisions. For each reserved judgment that the Supreme Court of Canada is releasing, players pick how they think each judge will decide the case: allowed or dismissed. The goal is to get as many correct predictions right in a row as you can.

Who

Thomas Slade is the creator of Fantasy Courts and a partner with Supreme Advocacy LLP. His practice focuses on Supreme Court of Canada leaves to appeal and appeals. What started out as making guesses in the office lunchroom about how we thought the SCC would rule on an appeal turned into a site that let us track those predictions over time and bring other lawyers and students in on the fun.

FAQ

Q. Can I change my name? A. Yes. Go to your profile page and click the “Edit” button next to your name at the top.

Q. The SCC heard an appeal last week, why isn’t it available for predictions? A. We only make cases available for prediction once the Court announces that the reasons for judgment will be released. The Court usually gives about 4 to 7 days’ notice.

Q. Why are there seasons? A. The Court historically took breaks from releasing judgments during July/August/September and December/January. We used those periods as a natural break. Also, as we’re aiming for who can get the longest streak, a new season gives everyone a chance to start fresh.
