In a move being lauded as a historic moment for Canada, the Prime Minister has nominated Justice Michelle O’Bonsawin to the Supreme Court of Canada. She will be the first ever Indigenous person on the Court.

O’Bonsawin will replace Justice Michael Moldaver as he approaches his mandatory retirement age this year.

Eugene Meehan, Q.C., states in this Law.com article that “her appointment will go a long way to inspiring future generations of Canadians and is an important step in ensuring the courts better reflect the country’s population”.
