Cory Giordano

Cory provides strategic advice and assistance in the drafting of leave to appeal applications, responses, replies, factums, and motions in courts of appeal across Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. He holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Ottawa, and Political Studies degree (B.A. (Hons)) from Queen’s University.

During his articles, Cory participated in numerous criminal trials at the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice. He has conducted civil motions and negotiations for clients in both Ottawa and Toronto.

Cory has appeared as counsel before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and co-counsel before both the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. He is Ottawa agent and counsel/co-counsel in a number of Leave to Appeal Applications at the Supreme Court of Canada.

A well-played left-handed electric guitar can usually be found in Cory’s office.

  • Rankin (Rankin’s Garage & Sales) v. J.J., 2018 SCC 19. Counsel for the appellant. Appeal allowed. Rankin’s Garage did not owe a duty of care. Claim against Rankin’s Garage dismissed with costs in the Supreme Court of Canada and in the courts below.
  • R. v. Purdy, 2016 ONSC 5522. Counsel for the appellant. Appeal allowed. Convictions were set aside on the basis of an inadequate W.(D.) analysis and insufficient reasons as per Sheppard.
