The Supreme Court of Canada will be holding virtual hearings starting next month to catch up on some of the 11 cases it postponed in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In today’s The Lawyer’s Daily, Eugene Meehan, Q.C. questions whether virtual hearings offer counsel the same advantage as in-person hearings and notes that there is considerable uncertainty as to when in-person hearings can resume.

Supreme Court of Canada executive legal officer Renée Thériault; emphasizes that the Court has “not shut down access to justice… we have to find a way, bearing in mind the important of respecting health and safety considerations…”.
